The Executive Chairman of Alimosho Local Government, Hon. Akinpelu Ibrahim Johnson, has commended residents of the council area for their impressive compliance and active participation in the monthly environmental sanitation exercise held on Saturday 30th, May, 2026, across the local government.
Hon. Akinpelu gave the commendation after leading the council’s management team, government officials, traditional rulers, community stakeholders, and volunteers in a comprehensive clean-up exercise aimed at promoting environmental sustainability, public health, and a cleaner environment throughout Alimosho.
The sanitation exercise attracted a high-profile delegation, including the Wife of the Governor of Lagos State, Dr. (Mrs.) Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, and the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab. Also in attendance were top officials of the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, including the Permanent Secretary, Office of Environmental Services, Dr. Gaji Omobolaji Tajudeen, and the Permanent Secretary, Office of Drainage Services and Water Resources, Engr. Mahamood O. Adegbite.
The three prominent monarchs within Alimosho Local Government Area were also in attendance โ the Elegbeda of Egbeda Kingdom, Oba Ahmed Omogoriola Orelope Laka I; the Onishasha of Shasha Kingdom, Oba Nosiru Babatunde Ogunronbi; and the Alaye of Orisunbare, Oba Rafiu Adebowale. The exercise also witnessed the active participation of the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO), members of the Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria (MWAN), students from various secondary schools, community-based organizations, and residents who joined hands with the local government to promote a cleaner and healthier environment.
Speaking during the exercise, Hon. Akinpelu praised residents for embracing environmental responsibility and supporting government efforts to maintain a clean, healthy, and safe community. He emphasized that environmental sanitation remains a collective responsibility and urged residents to sustain the culture of cleanliness beyond the monthly exercise.
According to the chairman, a cleaner environment is critical to preventing disease outbreaks, improving public health, and enhancing the overall quality of life of the people. He further reiterated the commitment of the Alimosho Local Government administration to environmental protection, proper waste management, and continuous public sensitization on the importance of maintaining a hygienic environment.
The sanitation exercise forms part of ongoing efforts by the Lagos State Government and Alimosho Local Government to strengthen environmental consciousness and encourage community participation in keeping neighborhoods clean, healthy, and flood-free.
Residents and participants described the exercise as impactful and commended the local government for providing effective leadership and mobilizing stakeholders towards achieving a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable Alimosho.
