Hon. Akinpelu Johnson Donates N3m Revolving Fund to Adire Trainees, Installed as NYCN Grand Patron

In furtherance of his commitment to human capital development and youth empowerment, the Executive Chairman of Alimosho Local Government, Hon. Akinpelu Ibrahim Johnson, on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, pledged a total sum of N3 million to the beneficiaries of the Adire Training Programme organised by the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Alimosho Chapter.

The event, held at the Alimosho Local Government Secretariat Hall, also featured the formal decoration of Hon. Akinpelu and his Vice Chairman, Hon. Francis Adebisi, as Grand Patron and Patron of the NYCN Alimosho branch respectively. The honours were presented by Leader Rasheedat Yusuf-Anani, representing the Senior Special Assistant to the Lagos State Governor on Wealth Creation, Ambassador Tijani Saheed, alongside the NYCN Lagos State Chairman, Engr. Adigun Ibrahim.

Hon. Akinpelu explained that the N3 million support fund is designed as a revolving loan exclusively for the programmeโ€™s graduands to enable them purchase production materials for Adire fabric making.

Restlessness among youths can be transformed into value and revenue for the local government,โ€ he said.

โ€œForm yourselves into clusters and operate as a cooperative. The council will fund the cooperative with this N3 million, which you will use among yourselves for material procurement and production. It will be released with guarantors. It is a revolving loan. You are our pride.โ€

The Chairman urged the beneficiaries to take advantage of the growing demand for locally produced Adire and to adopt strategic marketing by producing in various quantities and showcasing their products at social events and exhibitions.

He also recalled his experience at a budget retreat in Abeokuta, Ogun State, where he encountered high-quality Adire materials and purchased several pieces, an experience that reinforced his belief in the economic potential of local textile production.

A total of 50 participants completed the three-week intensive training hosted within the council premises, during which they produced multi-coloured Adire fabrics using different techniques. Certificates of participation were presented to all successful graduands.
