MINISTRY OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND COMMUNITY AFFAIRS CONDUCTS STRATEGIC MARKET INSPECTION ACROSS ALIMOSHO LGA.
Alimosho Local Government embarked on comprehensive Market Environmental Monitoring exerciseaimed at improving sanitation, safety and good health across all markets within the LGA on Monday 1st December, 2025.
Speaking at his office, the Executive Chairman Hon. Akinpelu Ibrahim Johnson announces the purchase of refuse compactors to ease the workload of the PSP and to serve as a source of revenue generation with the aim to ensure that our markets remain clean, functional and environmental friendly.
According to him the monitoring exercise will help us identify challenges in our markets and address them promptly. The council will focus on regular inspection of market facilities, waste disposal systems and drainage channels.
Monitoring of environmental sanitation practices among traders and market associations.
Enforcement of hygiene to reduce pollution, contamination and harmful environmental practices.
The team from the Ministry of Local Government And Community Affairs ably led by Mr. Shamsideen Seriki commended the administrationโs commitment to promoting public health and ensuring that markets operate in a clean and well regulated environment.
During the tour to markets in the LGA Sanitarian Akindele Bolade,a Director from The Ministry Of Local Government And Community Affairs while addressing the market association advocates for awareness campaigns to educate the traders on proper waste management, provision of public toilets, borehole, fire fighting equipments and fumigation of the market quaterly in collaboration with the Environmental Health Department.
He emphasized that the health of residents is a top priority, adding that clean markets contribute significantly to the reduction of disease outbreaks and create safer spaces for buying and selling and markets must reflect the standards of a modern, healthy and environmental friendly community.
Environmental Officers will begin routine monitoring across major markets which includes Iyana Ipaja market,Olugbede market and Orisunmibare market with penalties for non-compliance.
The Local Government urges all traders to cooperate fully with environmental officers to adopt the best sanitation practices . Meanwhile,the market leaders and traders have expressed support for the initiative describing it as a necessary step towards improving the cleanliness and reputation of the markets.
