In a bold demonstration of grassroots-focused governance, the Executive Chairman of Alimosho Local Government, Hon. Akinpelu Ibrahim Johnson, celebrated his first 100 days in office by empowering 500 residents with N100,000 each under the Renewed Hope Cash Support initiative.

The empowerment programme, held on Friday, November 21, 2025, at the councilโ€™s newly constructed Multi-purpose Hall, served as the grand finale of a week-long celebration featuring multiple developmental projects across the local government.

Being the grand finale celebration of 100 days in office, Hon. Akinpelu commissioned a series of infrastructure projects, including the interlocking of road at Bamgbola Street and the rehabilitation of Benstar Street road. Other commissioned projects within the council premises include the CDC Administrative Building inaugurated by the Onishasha of Shasha Kingdom, Oba Babatunde Nasiru Ogunronbi; the Customary Court Building commissioned by the Elegbeda of Egbeda, Oba Hammed Omogoriola Orelope-Laka; the renovated Central Mosque inaugurated by the Alaye of Orisunmbare, Oba Akibu Adebowale Raufu; a renovated Chapel unveiled by former council chairman, Sir Ayo Akinyemi; and a public toilet facility commissioned by Hon. Femi Adebanjo.

Speaking during the ceremony, Hon. Akinpelu highlighted the significance of the newly built Alimosho Community Rights and Advocacy Centre and the Customary Court.

โ€œThe Advocacy Centre stands as a lighthouse – a beacon for the confused, a refuge for the troubled, and a compass for citizens seeking guidance,โ€ he said. โ€œOur new Customary Court is a testament to our belief that justice delayed is harmony denied. This court brings justice closer to the people in a swift, culturally grounded manner.โ€

He assured residents that more developmental projects are underway, stressing that the empowerment initiative is not a one-off.

On the selection of beneficiaries, Hon. Akinpelu explained that all stakeholders were involved, from artisans and religious bodies to youth groups and community development committees. โ€œI instructed all seven councillors to identify genuine beneficiaries. This programme will be continuous because we intend to reach more people across Alimosho,โ€ he added.

Symbolic cheques were presented to selected beneficiaries during the event.

In his goodwill message, Hon. Lukmon Orelope, Member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Alimosho Constituency 1, commended Hon. Akinpelu for delivering โ€œdividends of democracy louder than promises,โ€ noting that his tour of the local government revealed impressive progress.

Former House of Representatives member, Hon. Femi Adebanjo (Eyes Open), urged residents to sustain their support for the chairman and extend the same to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections.

Former Alimosho Local Government chairman, Sir Ayo Akinyemi, praised Hon. Akinpeluโ€™s leadership, describing him as a well-prepared fourth-generation successor in the councilโ€™s political lineage.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Council Manager, Dr. Idowu Banjoko, lauded the chairmanโ€™s compassion, saying, โ€œIn my over 30 years of service, I have never worked with a chairman as compassionate as Hon. Akinpelu.โ€

The event was graced by dignitaries including Lagos APC Vice Chairman, Chief Babatunde Sunday Aboyade; the Elegbeda of Egbeda, HRM Oba Hammed Omogoriola Orelope-Laka; the Onishasha of Shasha Kingdom, HRM Oba Nasiru Babatunde Ogunronbi; the Alaye of Orisunmbare, HRM Oba Akibu Adebowale Raufu, among others.
