Alimosho LG Launches ‘Ounje Alimosho’ Half-Price Food Market to Support Residents

The Alimosho Local Government, under the leadership of its Executive Chairman, Hon. Akinpelu Ibrahim Johnson, on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, flagged off the sale of essential food items at 50 per cent discount within the council secretariat.

The initiative, tagged “Ounje Alimosho,” aims to cushion the impact of rising food prices on residents.A wide range of staple foods including rice, beans, yam, eggs, plantain, bread, vegetable oil, palm oil, garri, semovita, pepper, noodles, spaghetti and others were displayed for sale at half the market price, drawing large turnout from members of the community.Speaking at the launch, Hon. Akinpelu said the initiative forms part of activities marking his first 100 days in office, adding that the programme will now be held monthly to ensure continuous relief for residents.

“As the Chairman of this Local Government, I stand before you with a deep sense of responsibility and gratitude as we launch our Half-Price Foodstuff Sales Initiative,” he said.“In recent times, we have all felt the rising cost of living. Food prices have soared and many households are struggling to meet their daily needs. It is our duty, as leaders, to respond with interventions that bring real relief and meaningful impact.

That is why this initiative was conceived, to make essential food items more affordable and accessible to everyone.”Hon. Akinpelu assured that more welfare-oriented programmes would be introduced in the coming months in line with his administration’s “WISE AGENDA”.“I want to assure you that this is only the beginning. We are committed to expanding this programme and rolling out more initiatives that will promote welfare, empowerment and sustainable living,” he added.In his goodwill message, the Leader of the Legislative Arm of Alimosho LG, Hon. Semiu Rasheed Olamilekan, described the initiative as a demonstration of responsive leadership.
