In a historic move to deepen grassroots participation in governance, the Executive Chairman of Alimosho Local Government, Hon. Akinpelu Ibrahim Johnson, has concluded a two-day Budget Stakeholdersโ€™ Consultative Forum across the seven wards of the council.

The exercise, held on Monday, November 3 and Tuesday, November 4, 2025, marked the first time in the council’s history that residents were engaged at ward level ahead of the annual budget preparation. Wards A, B, C and D were covered on the first day, while Wards E, F and G were visited on the second day.
Residents turned out in large numbers to interact directly with the Chairman, outline their expectations for the 2026 fiscal year, and commend his administration for what they described as impactful achievements within his first 100 days in office.
Speaking during the sessions, Hon. Akinpelu described the forum as a strategic step in promoting transparency, accountability, and community participation in governance.

โ€œThis forum is a vital step in our continuous effort to make governance inclusive and responsive to the needs of our people. Our aim is to ensure that the 2026 budget truly reflects community priorities and aspirations,โ€ he said.

He added that while the administration had recorded notable strides within a short period, more work remained to be done, making residentsโ€™ input critical to effective planning.

โ€œWe have come to listen to your voices, understand your pressing needs, and align the 2026 budget to address them effectively,โ€ he noted.

The Head of the Budget and Statistics Planning Department, Mr. Bada Olanrewaju, explained that the initiative would help the council capture short, medium and long-term community needs, enabling efficient planning and resource allocation.

During the sessions, residents presented a range of demands including road rehabilitation, street lighting, establishment and improvement of primary schools, security, market infrastructure, culverts, and enhanced environmental services. Hon. Akinpelu responded to each request, outlining projected timelines and assuring residents of prompt intervention in critical areas. He also pledged on-the-spot assessments of communities grappling with perennial flooding and dilapidated roads, and environmental hazards.

Hon. Akinpelu cautioned residents against indiscriminate waste disposal, noting that such acts contribute to flooding and environmental degradation. He cited a recent case along Akowonjo Road where illegal blockage of drainage channels by an organisation caused severe flooding, which the council moved swiftly to address.

Highlighting key achievements within his first 100 days in office, Hon. Akinpelu listed the ongoing construction of a Customary Court within the council secretariat, improvements in primary healthcare and education, interlocking of Bamgbola Street, and construction of a CDC office, among others. He also announced plans to establish Advocacy Centres in all wards, create an Environmental Corps, and unveil a newly procured waste compactor during his 100-day celebration.

The Vice Chairman, Hon. Adebisi Francis, the Head of Administration, Dr. Idowu Banjoko, and other senior officials accompanied the Chairman during the tour.

Residents described the forum as a welcome development and a major shift toward participatory governance in Nigeriaโ€™s most populous local government.
