As part of activities marking the first anniversary of his administration, the Executive Chairman of Alimosho Local Government, Hon. Akinpelu Ibrahim Johnson, has organised a free medical outreach for residents as part of efforts to promote preventive healthcare, encourage regular medical screening and improve access to essential healthcare services at the grassroots.
The two-day outreach, which forms part of activities commemorating the administration’s first year in office, offers residents free medical screenings and professional consultations, including blood pressure and blood glucose checks, tuberculosis screening, HIV counselling and testing, malaria parasite testing, hepatitis screening, eye screening and general medical consultation.
The programme kicks off today, Monday, August 10, 2026, at the Council’s Multi-purpose Hall.
Speaking at the programme, Hon. Akinpelu said the initiative was driven by his administration’s belief that good health remains fundamental to the development and prosperity of the community.
He noted that financial constraints often prevent people from accessing basic healthcare, stressing that the outreach was designed to bring essential health services closer to residents who need them.
“Today, we celebrate not only one year of our administration but also our shared commitment to improving the lives of our people. Since assuming office, our administration has remained focused on people-centred governance, and today’s Free Medical Outreach is another demonstration of that commitment,” the chairman said.
According to him, “Good health is the foundation of every prosperous community,” adding that the programme was intended to ensure that residents could access quality healthcare services without financial barriers.
He encouraged residents to take advantage of the free services, particularly the screening opportunities, noting that early detection could save lives.
Hon. Akinpelu expressed appreciation to the healthcare professionals, volunteers, partners and others who contributed to the success of the programme, describing their service as a contribution to humanity.
Akinpelu also thanked residents of Alimosho for their trust, support and cooperation throughout the first year of his administration, assuring them that their encouragement would continue to inspire his administration to do more.
At the outreach venue, the chairman inspected some of the medical equipment and interacted with healthcare officials to ascertain the services being provided and ensure that adequate arrangements were in place for residents.
Demonstrating his commitment to the initiative and the importance of regular medical checks, Akinpelu also participated in the medical screening alongside the Vice Chairman of the council, Hon. Adebisi Francis.
The programme was attended by the Elegbeda of Egbeda, His Royal Majesty Oba Ahmed Orelope Laka; the Council Manager, Mr. Lawal Rafiu; the Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Ajimotokan Ismail; members of the council’s management team; healthcare professionals; youths; women and other residents who turned out to benefit from the initiative.
The outreach highlights the administration’s commitment to bringing healthcare closer to the people and promoting preventive healthcare through regular screening and early detection of health conditions.
Hon. Akinpelu thanked the traditional institution, political leaders, members of the management team, health officials, youths, women, community members and other stakeholders for their contributions to the success of the programme.
