Students and pupils from various schools across Alimosho Local Government on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Chairman of Alimosho Local Government, Hon. Akinpelu Ibrahim Johnson, at the Council Secretariat as part of activities marking Nigeriaโs 66th Independence Day celebration.
The visit, held a day before Nigeriaโs Independence Day, provided an opportunity for the students to celebrate the nationโs independence and appreciate the Chairman for what they described as his commitment and efforts towards the development of education across the local government.
The pupils, who arrived at the Council Secretariat in high spirits, staged a colourful parade in honour of the Chairman and extended Independence Day greetings to him and residents of Alimosho.
Receiving the students, Akinpelu expressed delight at their visit and commended them for the thoughtful gesture.
He urged the pupils to remain disciplined, uphold good character, take their studies seriously and prepare themselves to become responsible citizens who would contribute meaningfully to Nigeriaโs development.
The Chairman stressed that the future of the country depended largely on the younger generation, urging the students to take advantage of available opportunities and strive for excellence in their academic pursuits and personal development.
Akinpelu also commended teachers for their contribution to nation-building, acknowledging their dedication to shaping young minds, building character and preparing future leaders.
He noted that the role of teachers in developing responsible and productive citizens could not be underestimated.
The Head of Department of Education, Alimosho Local Government, Mrs. Obanla Fatimah, also appreciated the students for the visit and encouraged them to remain focused, disciplined and committed to their education.
Obanla urged the pupils to uphold the values of patriotism, integrity, respect and hard work, stressing the need for them to make themselves, their families, schools and Nigeria proud.
She further charged the students to see themselves as future leaders and ambassadors of the country, reminding them that their conduct and achievements would contribute to shaping the Nigeria of tomorrow.
Schools represented at the occasion included Godstone School, High Grade School and other schools within Alimosho Local Government.
The event was attended by the Vice Chairman of Alimosho Local Government, Hon. Adebisi Francis; Leader of the Legislative House, Hon. Semiu Rasheed; Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Ismail Ajimotokan; Head of Department of Education, Mrs. Obanla Fatimah; Supervisory Councillors; and other members of the Councilโs management and staff.
The atmosphere at the Council Secretariat was marked by excitement as the students interacted with the Chairman and other dignitaries.
In a gesture of appreciation and goodwill, Akinpelu personally exchanged handshakes with the pupils and thanked them for honouring him and the Council with their visit.
The event ended with a group photograph involving the Chairman, pupils, teachers and other dignitaries, capturing the Independence Day celebration and the Councilโs engagement with schools and young people across the local government.
