The Executive Chairman of Alimosho Local Government, Hon. Akinpelu Ibrahim Johnson, has received three major people-centred projects delivered by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (OSSAP-SDGs), describing the interventions as significant investments in healthcare, child development and education.
The projects, comprising a 50-bed Primary Healthcare Centre at Egbeda, a Children’s Recreation Centre on Asmau Bakare Street, Egbeda, and blocks of classrooms at Orisumibare, were officially commissioned and handed over to the local government on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, in the presence of dignitaries, traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders.
The interventions are expected to improve access to essential healthcare services, provide children with a safe environment for recreation and development, and create a more conducive learning environment for pupils and teachers in Alimosho.
Speaking at the commissioning and handing-over ceremony of the Kareem Laka Primary Healthcare Centre and Children’s Recreation Centre in Egbeda, Hon. Akinpelu expressed appreciation to the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, OFR, for the interventions and her continued support for community development.
He said the healthcare facility represented an important investment in the health and wellbeing of residents, particularly women, children and vulnerable members of the community.
The 50-bed facility is equipped with a range of medical facilities, including Children’s and Adult Intensive Care Units, a nurses’ station, delivery room, theatre, male and female changing rooms, surgical department, doctors’ residential accommodation and a VIP ward, among other amenities.
According to the OSSAP-SDGs, the healthcare centre is designed to expand access to quality and affordable healthcare services for residents of Egbeda and neighbouring communities, reduce the burden of travelling long distances for medical care, and strengthen maternal and child healthcare delivery.
Representing Princess Orelope-Adefulire at the ceremony, Mrs. Iwongo Suzanne, Secretary of the Programme Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs, delivered the keynote address.
She said the three interventions reflected the interconnected nature of sustainable development, noting that a healthy child requires access to quality healthcare, safe spaces for recreation and a conducive environment in which to learn.
She said the projects were delivered under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and aligned with several Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDGs 3, 4, 5, 10 and 11, covering health and wellbeing, quality education, gender equality, reduced inequalities and sustainable communities.
The OSSAP-SDGs representative urged the health authorities, facility managers, health workers, community leaders and residents to take collective ownership of the healthcare centre by ensuring that it was properly staffed, equipped, protected and maintained.
On the Children’s Recreation Centre, she described play as an essential part of childhood development, saying the facility would provide children with a safe and inclusive environment to develop physically, mentally, socially and emotionally.
She also called for fair and inclusive access to the facility, with special attention to girls, children with disabilities and those from vulnerable households.
At the commissioning of the classroom blocks at Orisunmibare Primary School, Orisunmibare, Hon. Akinpelu described the project as another milestone in the local government’s commitment to providing better learning conditions for children.
He said the new classrooms would provide pupils with a more conducive environment to learn, grow and fulfil their potential, stressing that investment in education was an investment in the future of the community.
The Chairman specially appreciated the Alaye of Orisunmibare, HRM Oba Akeeb Adebowale Raufu, for providing the land on which the school was built, describing his contribution as invaluable to the realisation of the project.
The OSSAP-SDGs also said the classroom blocks were intended to ease pressure on existing school facilities, improve attendance and concentration, and support better teaching and learning outcomes.
The office urged teachers, parents and education authorities to ensure effective utilisation, security, sanitation and continuous maintenance of the facilities.
Hon. Akinpelu, who formally accepted the projects on behalf of Alimosho Local Government, assured that the council would ensure their proper utilisation and maintenance.
He also appealed to residents and community leaders to take ownership of the facilities and protect them against vandalism, misuse and neglect so that they could continue to benefit present and future generations.
The Chairman further acknowledged the support of the Elegbeda of Egbeda, HRM Oba Hammed Omogoriola Orelope Laka, and the Member representing Alimosho Constituency 01 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Lukman Olatunji Orelope Laka, towards the development of the communities.
A tour of the facilities was subsequently conducted as part of the commissioning activities, with the Chairman and other dignitaries inspecting the projects.
The OSSAP-SDGs said the three projects demonstrated a people-centred approach to development by combining healthcare, recreation and education as interconnected pillars of human development, while urging the beneficiary communities and relevant authorities to ensure their sustainability.
HRM Oba Hammed Omogoriola Orelope Laka, the Elegbeda of Egbeda, also expressed appreciation to Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire for the landmark projects, while praying for continued strength and wisdom for her to sustain her contributions to community development.
Also visibly elated by the new school project, the Alaye of Orisumibare, HRM Oba Akeeb Adebowale Raufu, thanked Princess Orelope-Adefulire and Hon. Akinpelu for the intervention, assuring them of his continued support and cooperation with the administration.
