As part of his efforts to ensure healthy living and the wellbeing of residents of Alimosho Local Government, the Executive Chairman of the council, Hon. Akinpelu Ibrahim Johnson, has enrolled 1,000 residents in the free Ilera Eko Health Insurance Scheme.
The programme, which took place on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at the council hall, featured officials of the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA) carrying out the registration of beneficiaries drawn from across the local government.
Speaking at the registration exercise, Hon. Akinpelu described the initiative as a significant milestone coinciding with the first anniversary of his administration, saying it reflected his government’s unwavering commitment to prioritising the welfare and healthcare of residents.
“Today is a special day. As we celebrate one year of purposeful leadership, we are not just looking back at what we have achieved; we are looking forward to an even brighter future for our people,” he said.
The council boss recalled that upon assuming office, his administration promised to place the welfare of the people at the centre of governance, noting that the enrolment of 1,000 residents into the Lagos State health insurance scheme was another fulfilment of that promise.
According to him, the programme is more than a routine registration exercise, describing it as a lifeline that guarantees access to quality healthcare for residents irrespective of their financial status.
He explained that beneficiaries were carefully selected from the seven political wards in Alimosho Local Government and include elderly citizens, market men and women, artisans, youths, persons living with disabilities, members of Community Development Associations (CDAs), and other deserving residents.
“This is governance that leaves no one behind,” the chairman stated.
Hon. Akinpelu commended Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, for his visionary leadership and sustained commitment to improving healthcare delivery across the state. He also expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA) for partnering with the council to bring quality healthcare closer to the grassroots.
The chairman equally acknowledged the support of traditional rulers, religious leaders, community leaders, party faithful, and other stakeholders for their confidence in his administration and their contributions to the successful implementation of the initiative.
He assured residents that the health insurance programme was only one of several people-oriented interventions his administration would continue to implement, promising sustained investments in initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods, empowering residents, strengthening communities, and deepening grassroots governance.
Hon. Akinpelu urged the beneficiaries to take full advantage of the opportunity by utilising the health insurance scheme whenever the need arises, while encouraging other residents to embrace health insurance as a means of safeguarding their wellbeing.
“Good health is the foundation of every happy family and every prosperous community,” he said, while reaffirming his commitment to serving the people of Alimosho with integrity, transparency, and compassion.
Beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the council chairman for the gesture, describing the free health insurance registration as a timely intervention that would ease the burden of accessing quality healthcare. They offered prayers for the success of his administration and commended his commitment to improving the welfare of residents.
The event was attended by the three traditional rulers in Alimosho Local Government: the Elegbeda of Egbeda, His Royal Majesty Oba Hammed Orelope Laka; the Onishasha of Shasha, His Royal Majesty Oba Nasiru Babatunde Ogunronbi; and the Alaye of Orisumibare, His Royal Majesty Oba Akibu Adebowale Raufu. Also present were community leaders, party leaders, traders, artisans, and other residents from across the council area.
