In response to the devastating flood caused by Monday’s heavy downpour, officials of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) joined the Vice Chairman of Alimosho Local Government, Hon. Frances Adebisi, on an inspection visit to several affected communities.

The visitation was aimed at assessing the level of damage and providing immediate recommendations for relief and rehabilitation.

The NEMA team was led by Mr. Azzez Afunka, Assistant Director of Relief and Rehabilitation, alongside Mr. Adedokun Adewale, Chief Search and Rescue Officer, and Mr. Ajiginni Damilola, Assistant Chief Search and Rescue Officer.

The delegation toured multiple flooded locations within the Alimosho axis, including Jimoh Akinremi Street, Elegbede and Efunalaye Streets, Akakaremo Street, and Coker Road off Air Force Base Road, Shasha Oguntade.

Speaking during the visit, Hon. Frances Adebisi expressed concern over the recurring flood situation in Alimosho, emphasising the urgent need for drainage clearing, infrastructural reinforcement, and sensitisation of residents against practices that worsen flooding, such as indiscriminate waste disposal.

Mr. Afunka, on behalf of NEMA, assured residents that the agency would compile its assessment report for prompt intervention.

He added that the team’s mandate includes both relief distribution for affected families and long-term recommendations to mitigate future occurrences.

The visitation highlights the collaborative efforts of local government leadership and federal emergency response teams in tackling the challenges of flooding, which has become a recurring threat during the rainy season in Lagos State.
