Ifesowapo Shasha CDA Receives ₦1 Million Grant at Lagos Community Day 2025 for Outstanding Self-Help Projects

Ifesowapo Shasha Community Development Association (CDA) in Alimosho Local Government has emerged as one of the beneficiaries of the ₦1 million cash reward presented by the Lagos State Government at the 2025 Community Day Celebration held at the Police College, Ikeja.

The annual event, organised by the Lagos State Office of Rural Development, celebrates and rewards CDAs across the state that have demonstrated exceptional commitment to community-led, self-help projects aimed at improving local development and quality of life.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Rural Development, highlighted the remarkable achievements of Ifesowapo Shasha CDA, noting that the association is duly registered with the Ministry and has recorded impressive strides in community development over the past year.

According to him, the CDA embarked on several impactful projects, including the mounting of six entrance gates, installation of 12 solar-powered streetlights and 15 conventional streetlights, and the construction of two security posts.

The community also built two culverts, graded five streets with stone base, erected 40 high-tension and 110 low-tension concrete poles, and carried out extensive rehabilitation of their electricity infrastructure.

These efforts included repairing the transformer, purchasing an armoured cable, and constructing a perimeter fence around the facility equipped with a CCTV camera.

Additionally, the CDA supported vulnerable residents with educational materials and financial assistance.

Chairman of Ifesowapo Shasha CDA, Venerable Adewusi S.A., expressed profound appreciation to the Lagos State Government, praising Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for sustaining an enabling environment for grassroots development.

He noted that the financial support serves as a strong motivation for communities to intensify their self-help initiatives.

Venerable Adewusi also acknowledged the support of Hon. Akinpelu Ibrahim Johnson, Executive Chairman of Alimosho Local Government, stating that his administration has consistently provided a platform that allows CDAs in the area to thrive.

The 2025 Community Day Celebration was presided over by the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Kadri Hamzat, who represented Governor Sanwo-Olu. The event also had in attendance the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. (Mrs.) Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu; APC Lagos State Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi; Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Hon. Bolaji Kayode Roberts; and several other dignitaries.

The celebration once again highlighted the Lagos State Government’s commitment to strengthening grassroots participation and encouraging communities to take ownership of their development.
