In line with the Lagos State Governmentโs directive and the provisions of the Lagos State Boundary Committee Law of 2009, the Alimosho Local Government on Thursday, November 13, 2025, inaugurated its Boundary Committee to strengthen inter-community peace and promote conflict-free coexistence within the council area.
The event, held at the Alimosho Local Government Secretariat Conference Hall, was presided over by the Executive Chairman of the council, Hon. Akinpelu Ibrahim Johnson, who emphasized that the committeeโs mandate goes beyond bureaucracy, describing it as โa foresighted step to safeguard the fabric of communal peace.โ
In his inaugural speech, Hon. Akinpelu commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for what he called โthe renewed vigour in strengthening boundary administration across Lagos State.โ He charged the committee members to discharge their duties with impartiality, wisdom, and integrity.
โYour appointment is not a privilege of title but a trust of responsibility,โ he said. โWear it not as an ornament but as an armour, with integrity as your compass, fairness as your creed, and wisdom as your guiding light.โ
Hon. Akinpelu noted that Alimosho, the largest local government in Lagos State by population and landmass, remains the โheartbeat of community life, a melting pot of cultures, traditions, and aspirations.โ
He urged the committee to ensure that โour boundaries remain lines of peace, not trenches of conflict.โ
The newly inaugurated committee is chaired by the Vice Chairman of Alimosho Local Government, Hon. Francis Adebisi, with the Councilโs Legal Adviser, Barr. Onayinka Taiwo, serving as Secretary. Other members include Head of Agriculture Department, Mrs. Imam Rilwanat Toyin, Head Public Affairs Unit, Miss Sadiq Kudirat, and Mr. Adeeko, representing the Community Development Committee (CDC).
Traditional rulers who will serve as patrons or “Fathers of the Committee” include the Elegbeda of Egbeda, Oba Hammed Orelope-Laka; the Onishasha of Shasha, Oba Nasiru Babatunde Ogunronbi; and the Alaye of Orisunmbare, Oba Akibu Adebowale Rauf.
In his acceptance remarks, Hon. Francis Adebisi described the appointment as a call to duty rather than an honour.
โThis appointment is not a feather to our cap but a yoke on our shoulders, a yoke of responsibility to preserve peace, justice, and order within our communities,โ he said. โEvery dispute brought before this committee will be handled with the fear of God, the wisdom of elders, and the discipline of public service.โ
He assured that the committee would collaborate closely with traditional rulers, community leaders, and neighbouring councils โto ensure no disagreement grows into discord and no misunderstanding matures into mayhem.โ
The councilโs Legal Adviser, Barr. Onayinka Taiwo, administered the oath of office, oath of allegiance, and oath of secrecy to formally inaugurate the committee members.
