As part of his administration’s commitment to strengthening basic education and improving learning outcomes, the Executive Chairman of Alimosho Local Government, Hon. Akinpelu Ibrahim Johnson, has flagged off a free Summer Holiday Coaching Programme for primary school pupils across the council.
The official flag off of the programme took place on Monday, August 3, 2026, at Ebenezer African Church Primary School and Egbeda Primary School, both located in Egbeda, Lagos.
The initiative, organised by the Education and Library Services Department of Alimosho Local Government, will run simultaneously in eight public primary schools across the council from August 3 to August 27, 2026.
Speaking during the flag-off ceremony, Hon. Akinpelu reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving the quality of education in the local government, describing primary education as the bedrock of every child’s academic development.
According to him, the free coaching programme is designed to bridge learning gaps experienced during the previous academic term and adequately prepare pupils for the new school session.
“Primary school education is the foundation for achieving educational success. It is the bedrock upon which every other level of education is built. Without a solid foundation, meaningful progress cannot be achieved,” the chairman said.
He urged parents and guardians to take advantage of the initiative by ensuring that their children attend the coaching classes regularly.
The council boss also announced that free school uniforms, exercise books and school bags would be distributed to pupils at the commencement of the new academic session to further ease the financial burden on parents.
The head teachers of Egbeda Primary School, Mrs. Giwa Toyin, and Ebenezer African Church Primary School, Mrs. Fagboun Abosede, commended the chairman for prioritising education and supporting public primary schools in the local government.
They expressed appreciation for the intervention, noting that the council chairman had consistently demonstrated commitment to the welfare of pupils and teachers.
The school head teachers, however, drew attention to some of the challenges confronting their schools, particularly insecurity, which they said allows hoodlums to gain access to school premises and vandalise facilities, including electrical wiring.
They also appealed for intervention on electricity-related issues, including the provision of prepaid meters.
Responding, Hon. Akinpelu assured the schools that the council would examine the requests and provide necessary assistance where possible.
“We will look into these issues and do everything within our capacity to improve the learning environment for our pupils and teachers. At the same time, school administrators must continue to discharge their responsibilities diligently and channel their requests through the appropriate government channels,” he said.
Among those who accompanied the chairman to the flag-off ceremony were the Vice Chairman of Alimosho Local Government, Hon. Adebisi Francis; the Leader of the Legislative Arm, Hon. Rasheed Olamilekan; councillors; the Supervisor for Education, Hon. Idowu Gbenga Sunday; the Special Adviser on Education, Hon. Akinremi Dorcas; the Head of Administration, Mr. Lawal Rafiu; and other members of the council’s management team.
