The Executive Chairman of Alimosho Local Government, Hon. Akinpelu Ibrahim Johnson, on Tuesday flagged off the Adopt a School: “Snacks for Thought”, PBAT Feeds programme, a school feeding initiative aimed at improving the nutrition, welfare, and academic performance of primary school pupils across the council area.
The programme was launched at Ebenezer African Primary School and Egbeda Primary School in Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State.
Speaking at the event through the Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Ismail Ajimotokan, the chairman described the initiative as a significant step towards improving the welfare, nutrition, and educational outcomes of children.
He commended the Renewed Hope National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme, the Lagos State Government, and Conference 57 for championing the initiative, noting that investing in children’s education and well-being is an investment in the future of the nation.
“As an administration, we firmly believe that no child should be deprived of quality education because of hunger. A well-fed child is more attentive, healthier, and better positioned to learn and achieve academic excellence. This initiative aligns perfectly with our vision of building stronger, healthier, and more educated children in Alimosho,” the chairman said.
The National Coordinator and initiator of the programme, Mrs. Aderemi Adebowale, represented by Mrs. Dewunmi Mutiat, described food security as the foundation of national security, stressing that the initiative was designed to ensure that no child is left to learn on an empty stomach.
According to her, the Adopt a School initiative enables individuals, corporate organisations, and other stakeholders to support public schools by providing nutritious meals for pupils.
“When a child goes to school hungry, learning suffers. But when we nourish our children, we strengthen the future of our nation. This initiative is about restoring hope, improving learning outcomes, and ensuring that every child has the opportunity to succeed.
“The Federal, State and Local Governments have come together under this initiative to ensure that no child learns on an empty stomach because when we invest in our children, we invest in Nigeria’s future,” she said.
Highlights of the event included the presentation of PBAT Feeds ‘Snacks for Thought’ packs, containing whole-grain snacks, healthy protein, fresh fruits, and fortified drinks, to pupils by the Council Manager, Mr. Lawal Rafiu; the Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Ismail Ajimotokan; representatives of the National Coordinator of the initiative; and political office holders of Alimosho Local Government.
Among dignitaries at the event were the Chief of Staff to the Chairman, Mr. Olusegun Abayomi Tonteth; Council Manager, Mr. Lawal Rafiu; Head of Department of Education, Mrs. Obanla Olabisi Fatimoh; Supervisor for Education, Hon. Gbenga; Head of Budget, Mr. Bada Olanrewaju; Special Adviser on Education, Mrs. Akinremi Abiola; Mr. John Azeez Adediran; Hon. Dayo; Hon. Gbemisola Rufai; and other senior government officials and stakeholders.
