…To Launch Second Phase of N100,000 Cash Empowerment Programme in April
The Executive Chairman of Alimosho Local Government, Hon. Akinpelu Ibrahim Johnson, has brought relief and joy to over 500 widows and widowers through the distribution of food items as part of his administration’s social welfare programme.
The beneficiaries, who thronged the Secretariat Hall of Alimosho Local Government on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, received food packages including rice, garri, spaghetti, sugar, milk, and semovita.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Akinpelu described the initiative as a reflection of his administration’s unwavering commitment to inclusiveness and the welfare of vulnerable residents.
“This distribution of food items demonstrates our commitment to social welfare and the upliftment of every resident of Alimosho. As a responsive government, we believe no one should be left behind,” he said.
He added that the initiative forms part of broader efforts to cushion the impact of economic challenges and assured that the programme would be sustained on a quarterly basis.
“We will not relent in implementing policies and programmes that improve the living conditions of our people. Our goal is to provide relief, empowerment, and opportunities for sustainable livelihoods,” the Chairman stated.
Hon. Akinpelu further explained that the distribution process was carried out transparently, with the involvement of key stakeholders including the Community Development Committee (CDC), Community Development Associations (CDAs), market women, artisans, and others.
He also announced that the second phase of the N100,000 cash empowerment programme for 100 residents would commence the following month. The first phase, held in November 2025 under the Renewed Hope Cash Support Initiative, saw 500 residents receive financial support of N100.000 each.
In his remarks, the Head of Administration, Dr. Idowu Banjoko, commended the Chairman’s consistent commitment to staff welfare and community development.
“This initiative does not come as a surprise. We know his capacity and his genuine concern for both staff and residents,” he said, while advising beneficiaries to make proper use of the items.
Also speaking, the Head of the Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) Department, Mrs. Jinadu Kudiratu, described the programme as timely, noting that it would provide much-needed relief, especially during the festive period.
The Chairman of the Community Development Committee in Alimosho, Venerable Adewuyi Samuel, praised the initiative, describing it as unprecedented in the history of the local government.
Similarly, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman in Alimosho, Pastor Ibrahim Abiodun, urged beneficiaries not to sell the food items but to use them for their intended purpose.
Some beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the Chairman for the gesture. Mrs. Christiana Adetutu Adebowale described the initiative as impactful and timely.
“We are very grateful. At this time, many of us cannot afford these items. The Chairman has shown kindness to everyone,” she said.
Another beneficiary, Mrs. Oke Oluwatosin, said the support would go a long way in helping her family.
“I am very happy. This will greatly support me and my children. God will continue to bless the Chairman,” she added.
