Alimosho LG Boss Urges Public–Private Collaboration to Boost Tourism



The Executive Chairman of Alimosho Local Government, Hon. Akinpelu Ibrahim Johnson, has described the successful hosting of the Eyo Festival 2025 as a historic milestone that reaffirms Lagos’ rich cultural heritage and enduring global appeal. Speaking on the sidelines of the festival, the chairman applauded the grandeur and peaceful conduct of the event, commending the dedication of traditional institutions, cultural stakeholders, security agencies, and residents whose collective efforts ensured a colourful and well-coordinated celebration.


According to him, Eyo 2025 once again showcased Lagos as a city where history, culture, and modern civilisation coexist harmoniously. He noted that beyond the spectacle and pageantry, the Eyo Festival remains a powerful symbol of unity and identity for the people of Lagos. The chairman emphasized that the 2025 edition successfully connected generations, preserved indigenous values, and projected Lagos to the global community as a culturally vibrant destination.


Hon. Akinpelu  Johnson stressed that festivals such as Eyo strengthen social cohesion while instilling pride in cultural heritage, especially among the youth. Highlighting the economic dimension, he stated that Eyo 2025 clearly demonstrated the vast tourism potential embedded in Lagos’ cultural assets. He explained that the influx of local and international visitors stimulated activities across key sectors, including hospitality, transportation, creative industries, and small-scale businesses.

Reiterating his commitment to grassroots development, the chairman affirmed that his administration will continue to support initiatives that promote culture and tourism as engines of economic prosperity. He called for stronger public–private partnerships to invest in tourism infrastructure, cultural branding, and community participation. According to him, “With deliberate planning and collective ownership, festivals like Eyo will not only preserve our heritage but also drive economic growth and position Lagos as a leading cultural tourism hub in Africa.”
